Reflexive pronoun বলতে সেই সকল pronoun কে বোঝায় যার সাথে " self/selves suffix যুক্ত থাকে। Myself, himself, herself, ourselves, themselves, yourself,yourselves, itself, oneself etc Reciprocal pronoun.

যখন কোনো বাক্যের Subject এবং Object একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু হয়, তখন যে Pronoun ব্যবহৃত হয় তাকে Reflexive Pronoun বলে।

১. গঠন (Formation):

Personal Pronoun-এর Possessive Adjective বা Objective রূপের সাথে Singular-এ Self এবং Plural-এ Selves যোগ করে এটি গঠিত হয়।

• Singular: Myself, Yourself, Himself, Herself, Itself.

• Plural: Ourselves, Yourselves, Themselves.

২. ব্যবহারের প্রধান নিয়মসমূহ (Exam Rules):

ক) বাক্যের Object হিসেবে: Subject যখন নিজের উপর কোনো কাজ করে, তখন Object হিসেবে Reflexive Pronoun বসে।

• Example: He killed himself. (সে নিজে নিজেকে হত্যা করেছে)।

• Example: She fan herself. (সে নিজেকে বাতাস করছে)।

খ) Emphatic (জোর প্রদানকারী) হিসেবে: কখনো কখনো Subject-এর কাজের ওপর জোর দিতে এটি ব্যবহৃত হয়। একে Emphatic Pronoun-ও বলা হয়।

• Example: I myself did the work. (আমি নিজেই কাজটি করেছি)।

• Example: He himself went there.

গ) 'By' এর সাথে ব্যবহার: কারো সাহায্য ছাড়া একাকী কিছু করা বোঝাতে 'By + Reflexive Pronoun' ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Example: I solved the problem by myself. (আমি একাই সমস্যাটি সমাধান করেছি)।

৩. কিছু Verb যাদের পর Reflexive Pronoun বসে:

চাকরি পরীক্ষায় নিচের Verb-গুলো দিয়ে প্রায়ই প্রশ্ন আসে। এই Verb-গুলোর পর সাধারণত একটি Object প্রয়োজন হয়, আর সরাসরি Object না থাকলে Reflexive Pronoun বসাতে হয়:

• Absent, Avail, Enjoy, Pride, Resign, Apply, Exert.

• Correct: He absented himself from the meeting. (He absented from... ভুল)

• Correct: You should avail yourself of the opportunity. (পরীক্ষায় 'avail of' থাকে যা ভুল, মাঝখানে yourself বসবে)।

• Correct: She prides herself on her beauty.

• Subject হিসেবে ব্যবহার: Reflexive Pronoun কখনো বাক্যের Subject হতে পারে না।

  • Correct: I am Armin Ryhan.

• বিপরীতমুখী কাজ: 'Each other' এবং 'Themselves' এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য খেয়াল রাখুন।

  • They killed themselves. (তারা প্রত্যেকে আত্মহত্যা করেছে)।

  • They killed each other. (তারা একে অপরকে হত্যা করেছে)।
